A Chicago police officer and two hospital workers were killed Monday by a gunman who carried out a grisly assault at a city hospital. Police identified the fallen officer as Samuel Jimenez, a young cop with less than two years with the department.

I want you all to know that the Nevada Law Enforcement Coalition, of which NAPSO is one of the founders and a leader, endorsed a total of 52 candidates who appeared on the general election ballot this past Tuesday.  Of those 52 candidates (Democrats and Republicans), 46 of them won their races.

Texas Deputy Shot In Head During Standoff

A Texas sheriff's deputy has been shot and a suspect is in custody after an attempt to serve the man with an arrest warrant ended in gunfire and a three-hour standoff. Authorities say it began Thursday when a deputy went to a La Grange discount store to serve the man with a warrant charging him with failure to register as a sex offender.

An El Paso Police Department alert confirmed shots were fired and added that it was a suicidal subject in the parking lot of the Pebble Hills Regional Command Center.  The person died in the parking lot, but no officers were hurt during the incident, police said.  Police spokesman Sgt.
SOCIAL SECURITY WEP & GPO LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

The Social Security Fairness Act (H.R. 1205/S. 915) would fully repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO)).  The House bill currently has 190 cosponsors, only 28 short of a House majority and the Senate bill has 26 cosponsors.  This is more support than we have had in the last few Congress.

An El Paso police officer who pointed his gun at children in a viral video was cleared of wrongdoing in an internal investigation, Chief Greg Allen said at a news conference Thursday. Allen said the investigation found that allegations that officer Joe Rios wrongfully pulled out his weapon and choked a minor were unfounded.

Texas City Seeking Grant To Equip Officers With Body Cams

A $110,000 grant from Andeavor Corporation, THE Cardwell Foundation and the El Paso Community Foundation would allow the City of El Paso to buy body cameras for the El Paso Police Department. The grant will fund body cameras for the EPPD Crisis Intervention Team Unit and the DWI unit, according to a news release by the grant donors.

The police officer accused in the drowning of his 11-month-old son was found not guilty of injury to a child. On Thursday, the judge dropped two of the three charges he faces. Judge Susan Larson acquitted Raymond Licon Jr. on charges of abandoning and endangering a child and criminal negligent homicide.
